City & Guilds 2377-22 Basic Portable Appliance Testing

Course Outline
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is an important job and must be carried out correctly. This role must be performed by a person who is competent to do so - historically PAT testing was carried out only by those with formal electrical training and because of this City & Guilds 2377 course assumes those attending have prior electrical knowledge.

Increasingly those carrying out PAT testing are not trained formally in electrical work and may be for example Caretakers or Office staff. To enable these people to attend the course we have designed a two day course that includes the basic electrical knowledge required to succeed in passing the 2377 exam.

Course Contents

The morning session on day one gives course delegates the basic electrical knowledge needed to understand the subject matter. The course then progresses to look at the code of practice for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment produced by the Institute of Electrical Engineers.

On day two delegates will learn how to carry out portable appliance testing both by visual inspection and using test instruments, they will also learn how to correctly complete testing records. They will then take a practical assessment and multiple choice examination.

Successful delegates will receive an industry recognised City and Guilds certificate - City & Guilds 2377-22 ‘In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment’.

Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment

This is the 4th edition of the IET's Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.

The book has been revised to take account of the PAT aspects of Professor Löfstedt’s report and the HSE view that promotes a proportionate risk-based approach when assessing the safety of electrical equipment and appliances. This will help users, those responsible for the equipment and testers of the equipment to maintain safety
